Oils under pressure from fuel quality

Article Abstract:

Preventing the formation of black sludge on piston rings and other engine parts is an important issue for lubricating oil manufacturers. Black sludge arises from incompatibilities between fuel oils and lubricating oils, as well as the lower consumption of lubricating oils as a result of improvements in engine design. Falling fuel quality as as a results of end-users' demand for lower fuel prices further exacerbates the black sludge problem. Oil companies are responding to the challenge.
