Options expand loading data applications

Article Abstract:

Various software packages have been developed for loading shipboard personal computers to optimize cargo planning and stowage. The software also provide for optional modules covering damage stability or specific ship types. Kockumation AB's Loadmaster system, a software with ship type and owner specified-modules, can run programs on longitudinal strength, dynamic stability calculation, direct calculation of damage stability, optimum trim and an on-line program that interfaces tank gauging and monitoring systems. Schiffko, on the other hand, has developed a terminal stowage program while Intering has ISTS which compute for immediate cargo adjustments.

Loading computers face increased integration

Standard shipboard personal computers have evolved as software manufacturers have developed load computer software programs. These programs can do stores inventory, planned maintenance, crew lists and performing stress and stability calculations. However, most software package manufacturers were not able to offer their wares to ship owners since loading instruments to be installed on board ships have to be approved by societies such as the Shipboard Computer Group and the British Ship Research Assn.
