Owners bank on increased demand

Article Abstract:

Costa Crociere SpA has launched a massive ship investment program to meet increased demand in the European cruise line market. Costa Crociere has converted two of its vessels to cater specifically to British passengers. In addition, it has contracted P and O Cruises Ltd to build a $317.5 million, 1,975 passenger cruise ship to bolster its existing fleet. The new ship will be able to cruise 24 knots even in bad weather. Also, it has provisions for water evaporation to meet passenger demands for potable water.

Lessons learned from impartial hindsight

Article Abstract:

Broadgate Ltd. successfully introduced its VER1000 voyage event recorder system in May 1992, which has since then being outfitted in 77 vessels. The company has now launched a smaller, upgraded version of the VER1000, which only has 12 hrs. of recording time compared to 24 hrs. for the original version. The new version, which is priced around $105, 000, is also capable of intefacing with hull stress monitoring systems.
