P&O's 'Grand Princess' makes its debut

Article Abstract:

Fincantieri formally delivered the $450 million cruise ship 'Grand Princess' to P&O Princess Cruises on May 22, 1999. The new ship, which can accomodate 2,600 passengers and 1,200 crew members, has a total of 1,300 cabins, of which 700 have balconies. At 109,000g, 'Grand Princess' holds the distinction of being the world's largest cruise ship, the first in a new generation of wide-body ships where passenger space is more important than the ability to transit the Panama Canal. Fincantieri is building two sister ships at a slightly reduced cost of $425 million, for delivery to P&O in 2001.
