Predicting propensity to actively care for occupational safety

Article Abstract:

The four subscales, personal control, group cohesion, extroversion, and reactance show significant and independent variance for actively caring (AC) about occupational health and safety. The larger number of scales, hypothesized to predict AC, correlate significantly with willingness to actively care (90%), than those scales that are not to predict AC (50%). Reactance, which was not hypothesized to be a predictor, shows a negative relationship with AC behavior. The results prove the validity of the AC model. High correlation between self esteem, optimism, and personal control indicates overlapping in these constructs.

Safety diagnosis in industrial work settings: the safety diagnosis questionnaire

Article Abstract:

The safety diagnosis questionnaire (SDQ) is an essential tool in evaluating employees' behavior and attitude toward safety. SDQ focuses on safety-related behavior when different levels of work mechanization are considered. It determines deficits in hazard control and provides a basis for comparison when different departments are evaluated based on factors other than accident statistics.
