Preparing for engine maintenance pays off

Article Abstract:

Two approaches to scheduled and unexpected engine maintenance discussed at The Motor Ship's conference are summarized. Prof Gunter Grossmann of the Technical University of Berlin expounds on the inclusion of estimated linear wear rate in preplanning scheduled maintenance in his paper 'Factors Influencing the Wear Rate of Liners for Two-Stroke Engines.' The use of existing and planned communications systems that can aid a ship's crew for unscheduled work is tackled by Prof Nicholas Kyrtatos of the National Technical University in Athens in his paper 'Ship Technical Support Through Advanced Telecommunication Technologies.'
