Safety and economy are priorities

Article Abstract:

Saga Petroleum's floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel 'Varg' was delivered by the manufacturer, Keppel Fels Singapore Ltd in Sep 1998. The FPSO, designed for both safety and economy, is patterned after the Tentech 700 SP, a single-hulled, turret-moored vessel that was originally designed by Maritime Tentech. The Varg is designed to operate for 15 years in the harsh conditions of the central North Sea without dry-docking and without being disconnected from its moorings even in bad weather.

Gas carriers struck by Asian 'flu.'

Article Abstract:

The Asian financial crisis, which has resulted in a decline in the trade of liquified natural gas and liquified petroleum gas among the affected economies, is causing a decline in the demand for new gas carriers. The economic crisis, which has affected the gas demand of even the relatively immune countries such as China and India, has caused gas carrier shipbuilders to revise their existing projections to accomodate an expected downward trend.
