The findings of the inquiry into the loss of the bulk carrier 'Derbyshire' in 1980 are presented. The report highlights the failure of the forward hatch covers in heavy seas and recommends new formula to determine the required hatch cover strength.

Increased incidence of TBT pollution found

Article Abstract:

Evidence of marine pollution by tributyltin (TBT) is examined. Scientists at the Netherlands Institute for Sea Research say that TBT in sediments may take decades to break down and that TBT contamination is prevalent in European seas.
