Tapered-hex rollers cut wear, noise of sortation system

Article Abstract:

Sandvik Sorting Systems Inc. standardized on rollers with springloaded, tapered-hex shafts in its Singulator system to reduce noise and wear. The shafts fit into the mounting holes of the conveyor frame to stop movement between shaft and frame, which is a major cause of shaft-to-side-frame noise and wear. In the first component of the four-component Singulator system, Taperhex rollers are set up in an angle, carrying package to one side. The second component, the side-by-side remover, convey the packages in a single file at 400 feet per minute. Those that stay at the skewed-away rollers are carried to the recirculation conveyor, the third component. The fourth component, the flow controller, discharges packages by as fast as 430 feet per minute.

Automated system handles Ford windshields

Article Abstract:

Peak Industries Inc.'s automated conveyor and storage systems handle windshields for Ford Motor Co. The system, which replaces manual installation, is utilized to move the windshields from a lehr bending oven to a washer. Major elements of Peak Industries' new system include several belt and roller conveyors, storage racks, transfer carts, track-type shuttles and a glass separating station as well as a turnover device and two robots. Ford stated that the system, which accommodates six different styles of windshields, has improved the firm's product flow as compared to the old manual setup.
