Turning failure to advantage

Article Abstract:

Lloyds Register's Technical Investigations Department has undergone about 5,000 investigations of shipboard machineries in the past 50 years, focusing on marine failures and researching to find solutions on technical problems. The department, which conducts about 100 investigations annually, claims that then highest category is hull and machinery vibration, which is at 26%, followed by shafting problems at 24%. Most of the investigations are began only when the ship's problem cannot be solved by the crew or the equipment manufacturer.
