Using radio frequencies more effectively

Article Abstract:

The use of high frequency and medium frequency bands for international naval communication will decline as satellite networks take their place, but a number of current uses will likely continue. Radiotelegrams are still sent from Portishead, the UK-based telecommunications center. Shore-to-ship paging services are offered on medium frequencies. Direct dialing services are also available. Security communications between local ships will continue, as will the use of cellular phones.

VeriSTAR is a full Windows-based software package designed to help shipbuilders and shipowners accelerate the ship design process and minimize operating costs. According to developer Bureau Veritas, the program is very useful for monitoring the condition of a vessel for the duration of its service life because it integrates survey data into engineering analysis models. The French firm claims that VeriSTAR is more powerful than any other system currently being offered.
