Vehicles driven by teenagers in four states

Article Abstract:

A survey of teenage drivers and their parents was done in the states of New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Connecticut as part of a longitudinal study of the licensing process and driving activities of high school students. Teenagers who were considered owners of vehicles were observed to drive smaller and older vehicles based on data of all registered vehicles in the four states. The investigation also revealed that owners had higher driving rates and higher crash rates than nonowners. Thus, it is recommended that newly licensed drivers should be limited in owning vehicles.
