World class competition

Article Abstract:

Classification societies have been adopting various marketing strategies that concentrate on issues regarding safety of life, technical competence, technological investments, surveyor expertise and thorough rules, with emphasis on customer service. In choosing a classification society, shipowners should focus not only on financial package and expertise in classifying a particular vessel but also on the organization's size. Large societies could provide owners local support internationally while smaller ones enable owners to have personal contact.
