Article Abstract:

Canadian restaurant operators are stepping up service to reach people where they live. The market for meal solutions, home-meal replacement or simply food-to-go has become a wide-ranging and steadily growing one. With 22% growth in the number of off-premise eater occasins frm 1995 to 2000 for an average annual increase of 4.5%, the take-out/delivery market could steadily outpace overall foodservice growth by nearly 2% per year. The top five take-out/delivery items are french fries, soft drinks, pizza, burgers and chicken.
