The majority of large hotel chains are to offer Internet bookings allowing personal computer users to receive confirmation of bookings within seven seconds. Companies offering the service include Best Western, Hilton International, and Forte Hotels. The Hotel Switching Company (Thisco) will be available for GDS switching and direct credit card bookings.

Major UK operators are cutting back their Mediterranean programmes after the booking season got off to a poor start. High Spanish hotel prices are being blamed, although Spanish hoteliers believe that operators have exagerated the problem. Ciga name will disappear into ITT Sheraton's new luxury brand

The Ciga hotel brand will be absorbed into existing Sheraton brands following the merger of ITT Sheraton and the Italian chain Ciga. Sherataon has given the name the Luxury Collection to some of its top properties along with some of the Ciga hotels. However the Ciga name is to remain in its domestic market.
