The Commonwealth Institute has launched a new visitor attraction, the Commonwealth Experience. This includes a new conference and events centre, and a simulation attraction featuring an 18 seat, 6 DOF motion base, compound curved screen, and VistaVision. Interactive World offers hands-on exhibits with geographical themes designed around the National Curriculum, and a ride film has been produced by Helifilms.

Playing clever: the division between education and fun is blurring

The new generation of children's attractions are based on fun and education found in parks, supermarkets, shopping malls and musuems. Parents expect such attractions to offer physical actitivity and chance for children to let off steam. Learning based attractions will attract school parties, with fun/play facilities attracting more family group.s

Museums at war: museum design has fallen into two camps - multi-media interpretations or collection-based displays

Article Abstract:

Museums have a responsibility to preserve and expand collections, inform the general public and undertake study and research. There is currently a battle between the two main types of museum design, multi media interpretations and collection based displays, the outcome of which will determine how museums are designed over the next 10 years.
