Universal Studios and Tussauds Group are discussing the possibility of developing a Universal theme park adjacent to the site of Tussauds' Port Aventura in Spain, to create a themed resort similar to Orlando. Other Universal development plans include the opening of a park in Osaka, Japan, in 2001. The timeshare market in Europe is predicted to grow as companies such as Marriot, Hilton and Disney become involved and the industry's poor reputation improves. Such companies will bring higher standards in customer relations and quality of timeshare facilities to the market.

As the United Kingdom begins to recover from the 2001 foot and mouth crisis, and attempts are made to reopen the countryside to maintain tourism in the affected regions, local authorities are using the opportunity to improve hiking trails and facilities. This should boost local economies in the long run.
