Film choice

Article Abstract:

Corporate and technological development has resulted in a range of available film formats for the leisure industry. Formats include large screen and three dimension and may include sensory simulation. Larger and faster film format ensures image quality. Companies such as Bakelite, Showscan and Omni Films offers a full service while others specialise in components. For example Torus Film System concentrates on sensory products and Interactive Simulation specialises in projection equipment.

Stimulating simlators

Article Abstract:

Simulator technological advances have encouraged individual home use.In response group simulators have developed visual technology although movement and smell are sometimes incorporated. Home simulators allow individual control although visuals are less refined. Greatest advance has been in electronically created images which will continue the trend to home use. Fast frame rates and large format have imroved film quality but production costs limit it's use to group situations.

Maximum exposure

Article Abstract:

Quality of film will determine the future of the large-format film industry. In 1992 the only UK large-format film theatre is at Bradford National Museum of Photography, England. Howver, the high quality of 'The Rolling Stones at the Max' and other films released in 1991 should encourage the establishment of other large-format theatres. Projector systems may be for 1570 or 870 format. However, films in 870 format are currently limited.
