Spectrum of sport

Article Abstract:

A new leisure centre opening in November 1992 will enhance Guildford's sport and recreation facilities. Guildford Spectrum offers a large sports hall, Olympic standard ice rink, swimming pools and bowling. An all-weather athletics facility is available. The centre includes catering and spectator facilities and public transport will be available. Architects Miller Associates have designed the building to blend with the environment. The project has cost 28.1 million pounds sterling. Energy saving technology will reduce running costs.

Many computer programmes are available relevant to the leisure industry. Costs are largely related to complexity and training needs. Security requirements have prompted the development of controlled access. Other applications include membership control, booking facilities, ticketing and catering. However, it is unnecessary to incorporate all leisure needs within one computer programme.

Computer systems may be purpose-designed or adaptations of general packages. Integrated Software Systems provides a complete card-based system of leisure management control.
