Food fights

Article Abstract:

UK authorities are likely to enforce existing food safety regulations more strictly due to the increasing number of food contamination incidents. Britons reported a record number of more than 100,000 cases of food poisoning in 1997, and outbreaks of e-coli contamination received particular attention. The most commonly used piece of existing food safety legislation is the Food Safety Act 1990. This act makes it unlawful for retailers to sell food for human consumption which is unfit for the purpose. The Food Safety Regulations 1995 relating to training and safety analyses are also important.
