Guiding lights

Article Abstract:

Pool Water Treatment Advisory Group Chairman Andy Elphick is also chairman of the Disinfection Committee of British Water. Elphick was instrumental in helping to develop the 'Pool Water Guide', in 1995, and has worked on the new version called 'Swimming Water - Treatment and Water Quality Standards.' It is possible the standards set out in the revised guide will be used by the British Standards Inspectorate as the standard for the UK. Elphick points out the two bodies are voluntary rather than government agencies. Elphick is ProMinent Fluid Controls (UK) Managing Director.

Night lights

Article Abstract:

Many companies now offer firework display services, but event organisers should select the most suitable company very carefully. Inquiries should be made about issues such as insurance, safety policies and membership of trade organisations, and shortlisted companies should be visited on site before a final decision is made. Organisers may also wish to consider additional special effects, such as lasers.
