Fountains' centre

Article Abstract:

A new visitor's centre has opened at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire, England. Improved facilities include a restaurant, exhibition space, family facilities and extensive car parking. Most consider architect Edward Cullen has successfully used traditional materials to integrate the facility with the landscape. Private sponsorship raised 150,000 pounds sterling and the Countryside Comminssion provided 250,000 pounds towards costs of two million pounds. The National Trust contributed the balance.

Tours of Buckingham Palace, London, England aim to raise money for the restoration of Windsor Castle, England. The scheme will run initially for five years. Income is estimated at 30-40 million pounds sterling by 1998. Leisure professional consider the tours will enhance London's appeal to tourists. Tours will encompass 18 state rooms and the royal art collection. About 50,000 visitors per week are anticipated in August and September, 1993.

Bradford, England is promoting millshops as a tourist attraction. The Bradford Economic Development Unit's 'Guide to Millshopping' lists 41 shops offering bargain prices. A further publication 'A History of Millshopping' provides details of associated tourist attractions such as the working mill at Manningham and Bradford Industrial Museum. Details of Asian fabric shops are also included.
