Greece poised to move upmarket: Greek hotels are embarking on an investment and development project

Article Abstract:

Hotels in Greece have been awarded funds of Dr60 billion from the European Union, which will help to upgrade and develop new facilities. A Greek National Tourist Office (GNTO) survey found that the majority of complaints about the destination related to hotels. Tourist visitors to Greece fell to 9.7 million in 1996, from 11.7 million in 1994, and earnings from tourism fell by Dr54. Luxury hotels need to become more competitive, positioning themselves as destinations in their own right. GNTO research reveals that the future of the industry in Greece will depend more upmarket tourism.

Hotels go for massive investment in Nassau

Article Abstract:

A number of high quality tourist developments are currently underway in Nassau. These include the $30 million refurbishment by Sandals of the Royal Bahamian, built in 1948, and the $15 million renovation of the nearby Radisson Cable Beach Casino and Golf Resort. The Nassau Marriott Resort has received investment of $30 million, while Sun International is to add a 1,200-room extension to its $250 million Atlantis resort on Paradise Island.

Eight hurricane-hit Antiguan hotels shut

Article Abstract:

The tourist industry in Antigua has largely recovered from the devastation which resulted from Hurricane Luis in Sep 1995. Considerable efforts are now being made to emphasise that services for tourists are even better than before. However, some hotels are set to remain out of operation for some time. Airlines have resumed normal operations, and many hotels have been refurbished.
