Hot seat: Raymond Smith

Article Abstract:

Hoyts Managing Director Europe Raymond Smith admits the company will never have the same number of UK outlets as the major cinema operators, such as Warners, but their 10 multiplexes will be of a very high quality. Hoyts hopes to have more than 3,000 screens operating worldwide by 2002. Smith suggests a decline in the UK economy will not really effect turnover at the cinemas. He predicts the number of visits per person, in the UK, will increase to between 3.5-4 during 1998-2003. The company is planning to extend into Eastern Europe and open a cinema in Poland.
