Investing in people: option or necessity?

Article Abstract:

UK leisure operators have generally been slow to adopt the Investors in People initiative, even thought that they are aware of the importance of the performance of their staff in giving them a competitive advantage. The poor take-up could be partly due to the fact that the leisure industry is dominated by small businesses, which often feel unable to participate in national initiatives. It is also possible that there has been a lack of support for the implementation of Investors in People.

A new year - can we change?

In the leisure industry, the sports and active recreation sectors are threatened with competition from home entertainment and other types of leisure. If the recreation and sports industry is to retain its importance as a leading employer it must become more professional in attracting new recruits and promoting high standards.
