Leading role is difficult for American in Europe

Article Abstract:

American Airlines' senior vice president Hans Mirka says that despite the decision to reduce candidates for its override commission in Europe, no more major changes will take place. He believes that airlines are subsidising travel agents, but says that it is very difficult to take the lead in reducing agents' commissions unless other air lines are prepared to take similar action. American Airlines is seeking to reduce its European costs while increasing its market share. It hopes to save $20 million over ten years by centralizing its reservations to Dublin.
