Meridien is back on the market again

Article Abstract:

The recent purchase of leading UK hotel chain Forte by leisure conglomerate Granada will prompt the sale of Meridien, the luxury hotel subsidiary of Air France purchased by Forte in 1994. Granada will retain Forte's Posthouse and Travelodge brands, which focus on the budget and mid-market sectors, but will sell off Forte's more upmarket operations. The Meridien chain now covers 85 properties, and is valued at 714 million pounds sterling.

Price war may herald new era on channel

Article Abstract:

Eurotunnel has slashed summer season prices by 60% to 49 pounds sterling for an economy day-trip and 129 pounds for a standard economy return. The discounted fares are effective until the end of August. Eurostar passenger rail link prices have also been reduced. It is suggested that the discounts are being offered in an attempt to boost market share. Ferry operators have responded to the discounts with their own special offers.
