Miami puts disasters in the past

Article Abstract:

Miami, Florida, has recovered from a period of poor tourism with a record number of 9.4 million visitors in 1995. The recovery can be attributed to the substantial re-development of hotels and resorts in the area. There are new tourist attractions and existing ones such as the Miami Seaquarium have been refurbished. Another two large cruise ships will dock at Miami's upgraded port from this winter. Miami has take steps to improve visitors' safety as a consequence of the murders which happened in the mid-1990's.

Florida aiming to win back Europeans

Article Abstract:

Orlando and Kissimmee-St Cloud are looking at ways of attracting more visitors in the face of falling demand and strong competition from Caribbean destinations. They are particularly targeting first-time European visitors, and are hoping to be able to overcome Europeans' fears about their safety in Florida. A number of consumer promotions will be run by Orlando/Orange County covention and visitors bureau, including a $250,000 cooperative scheme with Disney, Universal and Sea World.

Resort says so long to college days

Article Abstract:

There is now a very cosmopolitan atmosphere in Fort Lauderdale, FL, which has traditionally been regarded mainly as a spring break destination and has tended to attract students. There has been tourism investment there of more than $350 million since the mid-1980s, and investment of a further $2 billion is planned. Almost half of this will go to expanding the airport, with passenger numbers forecast to double by 2015.
