Article Abstract:

The innovative Metreon retail and leisure complex in San Francisco is a prime example of retail corporations expanding their brand name and creating a new leisure image for their products. Sony, Microsoft and The Discovery Channel all have retail facilities in the centre which allow users to sample products a either game or experience level, although some of the attractions are not without their faults. Greater thought should have been paid to the location and marketing of some of the attractions.

The new shopping, leisure and entertainment centre at the UK's Portsmouth Harbour, Gunwharf Quays, was influenced by the Victoria and Albert waterfront development in Cape Town, South Africa. The complex is spacious, with attractive units, and has easily accessible shopping, and a selection of restaurants.
