New theme for leisure parks

Article Abstract:

A new National vocational Qualification has been launched for mechanical ride operators at leisure parks, piers and attractions. It has been developed by the Sport and Recreation Lead Body and the British Association of Leisure Parks Piers and Attractions (BALPPA). Both sectors share a common customer care focus and regard the safety of their customers as paramount. Chair of the BALPPA education and training committee, David Williams, believes the NVQ will become the focus of training.

A breath of fresh air

Article Abstract:

Considerable attention is now being given to ensuring high safety standards at activity holiday centres in the UK. The British Activity Holiday Association (BAHA) has for some time been involved with improving staff training, as it believes that this is the best way to prevent accidents. In-service training is now being given particular attention, as activity centres require staff with a wide range of skills which they would not necessarily be able to obtain outside the sector.

Compulsory competitive training. (the effects of CCT on skill needs)

Article Abstract:

The introduction of Compulsary Competitive Tendering challenged the philosophy of sport for all. A study of the effects of CCT on sport for all by the Sports Council has shown how authorities have worked to provide services despite financial pressures. A distinction has been made between local authority services and solely commercial approaches, with emphasis on the importance of training.
