More competition from rail is hitting hoteliers

Airport hotels in Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt and Dusseldorf have all been affected by the Eurotunnel and high-speed rail links across Europe. The Hyatt Regency Paris - Charles de Gaulle is marketing itself to drivers heading south in a move to boost business. According to Ann Collins, marketing manager at the Millennium and Copthorne Hotels, competition at Charles de Gaulle is increasing.

A new airline and hotels defy gloom

Article Abstract:

Two new hotels are being developed in Cambodia by Raffles International, a Singapore-based company. They are to open during 1997, despite troubles in the area. The launch of Kampuchea Airlines by Orient Thai Airline will provide another boost to Cambodia's infrastructure. The airline will run services between Phnom Penh and Singapore, with further Asian destinations to be added later.

Hotels offer prices at 1993 levels

Article Abstract:

Hotels in Florida are to return their prices to pre-recession levels in summer 1996. Since 1993, the industry has been negatively affected by the recession and by tourist shootings. Prices are expected to rise in tune with inflation by 1997. Prices have been held over the last few years in an attempt to boost ailing business. In 1995, occupancy levels averaged 77% in Florida.
