Out-smarting the competition

Article Abstract:

There are many potential applications for smart cards in the entertainment and leisure market. These cards could prove particularly useful in this market because they allow a number of important functions to be incorporated into a single card. Smart cards can be used for staff identification within leisure complexes, for example, and can also be used to offer enhanced customer services. There are already a number of smart card schemes in operation in the UK leisure industry, including Leisure Card, which gives better efficiency in the management of local authority leisure centres.

Smart Moves

Article Abstract:

Smart cards for use as membership cards could prove highly suitable for the leisure industry, but the idea has not often been put into long term practice. Such a membership card could indicate the kind of membership, and the date of expiry of membership, and be used as a key card for access and a method of payment for vending machines, among many uses. Providing members with such cards can else help service providers to set up a database and to glean information which can be used to ensure that facilities suit members.
