Planning for the future

Article Abstract:

There is considerable variation in the ways in which leisure services are supplied by local authorities, according to a speaker at the 'Leisure Management for Local Authorities - Opportunities for Change in a New Era' conference. A unifying committee with responsibility for areas such as recreation and libraries is used by some authorities, and these authorities usually have a standard policy for leisure. Authorities should look carefully at the legal aspects of reorganising their leisure facilities, and may consider applying for charitable trust status. Local authority leisure managers were called on to be more imaginative and innovative.
