Profile: Jean David

Article Abstract:

Ensuring the right environment for both performers and audience to fully experience every aspect of a show is one of the most important elements of Cirque du Soleil vice president Jean David's job. David became the promotions manager for a group of Canadian street performers in 1982 after giving up his job as an advertising executive. The group quickly evolved into the Cirque du Soleil, which will hit sales of 300 million Canadian dollars in 1999. Up to 3.5 million people attend the unusual circus shows each year, with seven separate shows on tour at any one time.

Richard Clarke

Article Abstract:

Museums can enjoy high profit levels from taking the correct approach to retailing, according to Richard Clarke, planning manager at WH Smith. Items themed around the museum's collection can be very popular, and have the advantage of not competing directly with goods being sold by high street stores. Museums should work hard to exploit their captive market, which is often wealthy.
