Electrokinetic movement of settled spherical particles in fine capillaries

Article Abstract:

An experimental methodology for studying the effects of capillary diameter, ionic strength and pH in the electrokinetic motion of particles in fine capillaries is described. Applied to the case of negatively charged spherical particles with a diameter of 6.76 (micro)m, electrokinetic velocities were noted at several values of applied electric field. Mostly, the particles move toward the cathode. At pH 4 and in the 10-(micro)m capillary, the direction of electrokinetic movement hinges on the applied field. Particles head toward the cathode at low electric fields and toward the anode above some critical value for the electric field.

Small talk

Article Abstract:

The Confederation of British Industry's report on leisure attractions, 'Attracting Attention,' makes it clear that significant changes are taking place in the leisure sector. Attractions must adapt if they are to withstand competition from other leisure choices, and there is a need for product investment. Customers are becoming more demanding, and this is prompting leisure operators to consider a wide range of new initiatives and to place more emphasis on marketing.
