The franchise option

Article Abstract:

Restaurant franchising became widespread in the late 1990s and the number of restaurants franchising in 2000 appears to be growing at a rate similar or better than major stock exchanges. Many in the foodservice business believe that less than one third of all restaurant franchises legitimately provide their franchisees with an opportunity to regain their investment and earn a decent living. A number of pertinent questions ought to be asked by restaurants who desire to develop their businesses such that they can capitalize on the franchising trend.

So ... you want to buy a restaurant?

Article Abstract:

Buying an existing restaurant has many advantages but it also requires many considerations in order to make a sound purchase. Before purchasing a restaurant, would-be buyers must decide if they want to operate the business in much the same way as the present owner. Other considerations include conducting a financial analysis, examining the length and terms of the lease, ensuring the vendor work with the buyer, ensuring that the vendor does not compete with the buyer, and determining the fair price for the business.
