Spending changes

Article Abstract:

The leisure budgets of 41% of UK local authorities are likely to have been cut in 1995/96, according to a report from the Centre for Leisure and Tourism Studies (CELTS). In metropolitan areas, this may have been as high as 75%. District council leisure budgets will rise by 2.7%, while those of London and metropolitan councils will fall by an average of 2.5%. Information of this kind is useful, but it is important to accept that local authorities will never have all the money they require to provide all the facilities they would wish to.

Lottery faces setbacks?

Article Abstract:

The National Lottery has taken large sums of money away from charities, which are concerned that they are not getting this money back in the form of donations from the National Lottery Development Fund. There is growing controversy about the criteria used for the distribution of National Lottery funds, and the eventually the support of ordinary people may be lost because of this. It is vital that these problems are overcome before large sums of money start to be wasted.
