Article Abstract:

A conference at the Royal Society for the Arts, London, England has recommended management of local authority arts and leisure facilities by charitable trust. Charitable trust management has benefits unavailable through compulsory competitive tendering. The trust is an independent body that can safeguard consumer and local authority interests. A range of trustee expertise may be available and trust status enables funding from a variety of sources. The Arts Council has accepted charitable trusts as a possible management option.

Article Abstract:

A national festival has commemorated British Presidency of the European Community. About 1,000 events have been held in 250 locations from June-December, 1992. A government grant of six million pounds sterling has funded new events and contributed to existing projects. The festival has aimed to take culture to the people and attract those who would not normally be interested. However, many may not have been aware of the featival due to limited publicity.

On another planet

The latest branch of the Planet Hollywood cult restaurant chain has opened at a three floor site in The Trocadero, London, UK. It covers 25,000 sq ft, and seats 400 people, with design work being carried out by Haverson-Rockwell Architects. It successfully combines food, fantasy and film, and features a wide range of film memorabilia. The businessmen behind the venture are discussed.
