Virgin's ticketless birth produces healthy baby

Article Abstract:

Jonathan Ornstein, president and chief executive of Virgin Express, is pleased with the performance of the economy airline which has been operational since May 1996. Virgin Express came into existence following Richard Branson's acquisition of Euro Belgian Airlines. Departures per month have increased from 300 to 1,200, passenger numbers have doubled and profitability has been maintained. Ornstein believes that the company's policy of not issuing booking confirmations or tickets has made a big contribution to the airline's rapid growth.

Carlson Wagonlit claims it will lose 1 million Dkr a year in commissions and claims that many clients will still ask them to make reservations for them.
