Work rest and pay

Article Abstract:

The Work, Leisure and the Quality of Life conference held at Sheffield Hallam University, featured speakers from the UK, the US, the Netherlands and Japan, discussing the links between work and leisure time. Professor Juliet Schor of the Department of Leisure Studies, Tilburg University, spoke of the rigidity of the job structure in the US and the way that work pressures have led to people seeking alternative lifestyles. In contrast, Europeans enjoy more free time, although in some sections of society working hours have increased, leading to shorter holidays, the combining of attractions in one place, and capital intensive home entertainment.
