How Lockheed implemented CIM

Article Abstract:

The Austin Division of the Lockheed Missile and Space Company Inc has successfully completed the implementation of a computer-integrated manufacturing (CIM) program after four years and an investment in software and hardware worth about $5 million. Lockheed Austin Division's success was due to its well-informed and actively involved management team, a project team that was adequately staffed with committed and capable people, and a project manager equipped with skills and authority to carry out the project. With CIM, Lockheed is able to meet delivery schedules and commitments, to obtain approval by the government to use electronic sign-off for payroll processing and payment, and to document product quality electronically.

Integrated assessment: a growing child on its way to maturity

Article Abstract:

Integrated assessment (IA) involves the integration and communication of scientific findings to promote learning among policy-makers, the scientific community and society in general. IA, which was practiced in ancient Egypt, is not exclusive to the study of climate change, requires diverse approaches and uses the knowledge and expertise of several disciplinary sciences. IA, however, lacks a unifying theory for the development of theoretically-based rules and standards.
