Parson Weems, America's popular author, wrote books on the events of the first president of the USA, George Washington, adding more elaborate titles and tales with each edition, enabling to make him appear like a mythic figure. His story of an incident about the young Washington trying to cut a cherry tree and unable to lie, owning up to it to his father, seems like a figment of the writer's imagination.

The building that could have changed Washington

Article Abstract:

A building that didn't get built in 1939 in Washington might have led to a much different look for the city. The Smithsonian Gallery of Art, designed by Eliel and Eero Saarinen, reflected and anticipated the future but never came into being due to beauracratic fear about inexperienced designers and their opinion of the unsuitability of the design for a building of a public or semi-public nature.
