B&B guidebooks suffer from the sins of omission

Travel guide books often give but cursory attention to bed and breakfast (B&B) establishments or omit references to B&Bs altogether. The oversight is the result of a lack of standards for judging B&Bs. The publishers of prominent guides state that they will rectify the situation.

Cruise lines are learning that cleanliness counts

The Public Health Service is authorized to inspect all cruise ships sailing from US ports twice each year and to stop a ship from sailing if conditions are unsafe. The inspections and public relations concerns have been important factors in improving cruise line sanitation.

Clawing back that Eurotax: tricky - but it's worth persevering

Travelers to Europe can claim refunds on value-added taxes imposed on their purchases. The refunds range from Switzerland's 6.5% to Denmark's 25%. Tourists are advised to ask for documents stating the amount of their purchases and the refunds they are entitled to.
