FTC eyes car-rental turnbacks; zaps Budget for failure to disclose charges

Article Abstract:

The Federal Trade Commission took action against Budget Rent a Car for its deceptive practice of charging customers who were involved in accidents a loss-of-turnback fee, which represents the value of the car to the manufacturer, without informing them about it. The practice is discontinued.

Navigating the fast turns of car rental insurance

Article Abstract:

Most car rentals are covered for insurance by their personal auto-insurance or by cover from a charge card company. Despite this car rental companies offer a range of insurance which is often not needed but taken without prior consideration.

Hertz, Alamo add local restrictions

Article Abstract:

Both Hertz and Alamo have added surcharges for people who live in the same area as they are renting the car. The daily charge can range as high as $56 a day for renters from the Bronx, NY.
