"Ship of Gold" ... and trouble!

Article Abstract:

The arrival of the steamship S.S. Portland from St. Michael, AK, in 1897 attracted widespread interests from the people of Seattle, WA. Suddenly-rich miners arrived bringing home a ton of gold nuggets stacked inside the infamous ship, thus igniting further the stampede to get to Alaska.

Born too late: Skagway tour operator takes his history on the road

Article Abstract:

Steve Hites is doing what he wants to be doing as a tour operator for the Skagway Street Car Co in Skagway, AL. Hites has had a life-long interest in the history of the state. He shares this interest while showing tourists around, telling them that gold is where you find it.
