Improving the Quality of Light...and Work Performance

Article Abstract:

The benefits of good office lighting include lower absenteeism, better security and safety, improved morale and company image. An example is given, with figures, to show how cutting down on lighting at the General Services Administration actually cost the agency by lowering productivity. On the other hand, a lighting management system at Pennsylvania Power and Light increased productivity by $235,290 a year. Because of the nature of the work done in their new electronic offices, companies are consulting lighting professionals. Figures show that 'group relamping' is more efficient than 'spot relamping'. Explanations are provided for the terms used in measuring effective lighting.
