Mercy at Appomattox

Article Abstract:

The surrender of General Robert E Lee's Army of Northern Virginia in 1865 at Appomattox Court House, VA, marked the end of the long and bloody Civil War. Several important historic sites in the region have been restored and are open to the public at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park.

Yellowstone National Park was the first park created in the US by an act of Congress in 1872. Since then, 96 million people have traveled to observe its geysers and grizzly bears. The principle for determining intervals between eruptions of Old Faithful geyser is provided.

Dec 17, 1903 is not well remembered as a date in history, but its historical event changed life in the 20th century. The Wright brothers achieved the first powered aircraft flight off the Outer Banks area of North Carolina. An historical perspective is presented.
