Fair game for intuition

Article Abstract:

Edinburgh University Professor Emeritus of Machine Intelligence Donald Michie points out money invested in developing artificial intelligence has not been wasted as a number of new technological advances have already been developed from the work. Some observers point out the robotics departments often are involved in high profile research, such as making a robotic volleyball team, but query whether the work has any real relevance. Experts in the field of robotics suggest the work they do allows them to test theories and further their understanding of artificial intelligence.
