The M1911's uncle: Colt's 'Model 1907.'
Article Abstract:
Development of U.S. Military firearms involved modifying the 'Model 1907' and later using the modifications to manufacture the 'Model 1911.' The 1907 is the first 45 caliber automatic pistol tested by the Armed Forces. The test results were used for improving the line of pistols for the U.S. Military.
