A woman looks back on how her siblings tested anyone who was to be a prospective member of the family. The family wanted someone who showed real Alaskan traits such as operating a hard-to-start outboard motor, plucking a duck and butchering a moose.

Silence

Article Abstract:

Alaska's lack of populace usually translates to lack of noise and sometimes the silence is so intense it can be deafening. The silence that Alaska exudes is a silence that can be best used to reflect and philosophize as it translates to serenity.
